Surface Spread of Flame

E-mail Print PDF

Features

  • Solid robust welded steel framework housing the following:
  • Gas panel constructed of porous refractory tiles in a stainless steel housing, mounted on a on the framework on a rotating steel ring
  • Gas Panel can use natural gas, methane or propane mixed with air prior to entry to the panel
  • Incorporates a dual gas safety shut off system
  • Variable area calibrated flowmeters are incorporated in the supply pipework allowing gas and air supplies to be controlled and monitored
  • Pressure governors, control and shut-off valves for the gas and air
  • Safety flame arrestors on pilot burner system
  • An adjustable pilot burner using acetylene/air mixture is used for the pilot flame
  • A heat release stack is mounted on the specimen support framework directly above the test specimen complete with specially manufactured type K thermocouples and positioning frame
  • Three specimen holders
  • Three spring-loaded action clamp
  • One dummy specimen
  • Three specimen backing boards
  • Calibration board of calcium silicate based material with a series of holes for positioning the heat flux meter at the prescribed calibration locations, together with plugs for the hole positions not in use during calibration
  • Specially calibrated water-cooled Schmidt-Boelter heat flux meter with calibration certificate
  • Thermocouple conditioning device for the heat release stack showing compensated signal and allowing connection to logger or recorder

Optional Extras

  • Line burner - used to calibrate the heat release stack [relates to IMO Res A.653(16)]
  • Air blower to provide an air supply at 9 litres/sec
  • Software package and data acquisition system to record outputs (not including PC)

Services required

  • Air at 9 litres/sec
  • Gas - natural gas or methane supply
  • Acetylene supply
  • Electrical Supply - 230V/50Hz or 120V/60Hz
