Fire Instrumentation & Research Equipment Ltd has now completed its third year of operation and turnover has increased 3-fold since the initial year. It is confidently anticipated that this growth will continue during 2001/2. FIRE’s policy is to offer and support the highest quality fire testing equipment and software available - at competitive prices.

Since the inception of FIRE, the range of products we manufacture has increased steadily. The range now comprises:


  1. All instruments and apparatus specified in the new Euroclassification of reaction to fire performance of construction and flooring products. These comprise:

    • Single Burning Item test EN 13823.
    • Radiant Flooring Panel EN ISO 9239-1.
    • Non-combustibility test EN ISO 1182.
    • Small Ignition test EN ISO 11925-2.
    • Gross Calorific value EN ISO 1716 – (marketed but not manufactured by FIRE).


    FIRE has an extremely large customer base for the above equipment. All the products are of the highest quality and the software we offer with the relevant apparatus is the best and most comprehensive available on the market.

  2. Instruments for oxygen depletion calorimetry comprising:

    • Cone Calorimeter.
    • Room Corner test.
    • Heat Release system for Vertical Cable test for bunched wires or cables.

    FIRE’s new Cone Calorimeter is a second generation instrument drawing on our wealth of experience of manufacturing these instruments since the mid-eighties. New software for all these instruments has been based on the highly successful and well-proven SBI software. Gas analysis racks offered for the above instruments and also the SBI are mobile and detachable so can be used with any of these instruments as required.

  3. LOI (Limiting or Critical Oxygen Index). This is a new, fully automatic instrument with many useful and time-saving features making it very easy to use. It has made a big impact on the market in a very short time.

  4. Smoke Chamber. This is also a new design featuring a state of the art smoke measurement system, robust pneumatic vents as well as occupying a smaller footprint than other commercial instruments. The instrument is designed to meet all relevant standards including ISO 5659-2. Incorporates a new data acquisition and software system to log relevant data and present it using our report generation facility.

  5. UL94. The following new test methods have now been incorporated into our existing design. The standard instrument now complies with the following:

    • UL94 fifth Edition
    • ASTM D635, D3801, D4804, D4986, D5025 and D5207
    • IEC 60695-11-10 and IEC 60707
    • ISO 1210, 9773, 10093


    We have also developed the large chamber version required for test method IEC 60695-11-20.

  6. IMO Spread of Flame apparatus. Robust design complete with data acquisition and software.

  7. Apparatus and spares for various parts of BS 476 including fire resistance furnaces.

  8. We can also supply other specific apparatus on request such as the Bruleur Electrique. If you have any requirements not listed above, please contact us and we shall see if we can help.

FIRE’s partner in the USA is the Govmark Organization Inc. Govmark offer the services of a very successful fire testing laboratory but they also manufacture a range of fire testing apparatus largely complementary to FIRE. This has enabled FIRE and Govmark to collaborate successfully in Europe, the USA and other parts of the World. This relatively new link will develop further during the years ahead. FIRE supports fire science conferences and other events wherever possible. We also arrange workshops periodically where delegates can see fire testing instruments being used and gain ‘’hands-on’’ experience. It is our intention to develop further this aspect of our work.
