Fire introduces a new instrument for oxygen index

The LOI (COI) test is well established but many of the instruments in use around the World are very old designs which are awkward to use or difficult to calibrate or both.
Because of the long experience of this test among FIRE staff, we have been able to manufacture a new instrument offering all the desired features which are not available in other older models. This new instrument was recently launched and the first orders have been received.
A new leaflet describing the apparatus is now available – please see product area for a copy. The main features of the apparatus are as follows:
Selection of oxygen concentration is by push-button control and the oxygen and nitrogen valves are adjusted automatically. This contrasts with older designs where valves needed to be adjusted manually, a rather painstaking exercise.
On the front of the instrument there is a display panel showing instrument status, oxygen concentration, flow rate of gas up the chimney, chimney temperature and lapsed time during the test. This comprehensive set of data is much more than has been provided in the past.
Calibration is automatic by push-button control. The ‘’autocal’’ button is selected on the display panel and calibration at zero % and maximum range oxygen is then performed automatically by the instrument without the necessity of any further intervention by the operator. The instrument opens and closes valves as necessary.
Both gas supplies are activated/deactivated by a control button on the display panel. This is a novel safety feature.
The instrument utilises the latest oxygen analyser technology available.
A mineral insulated thermocouple is installed inside the chimney to measure the column temperature adjacent to the sample.
Two types of sample holders are included with the instrument. One for self supporting samples and the other for textiles, films, etc. Both types of sample holder are made from high quality stainless steel.
